Law officers in Camden County received a report on Sunday night from someone who had overheard someone pleading with another person to “put the gun down.”
A 20-year-old is accused with four felonies, including first-degree murder, first-degree domestic violence, and two counts of armed criminal action, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
Camden County Communications received the distress call at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, according to a statement from the CCSO. Before the phone ended, they overheard voices yelling for someone to lay down their pistol and the sounds of fighting. Deputies were sent to the site after law enforcement followed the trail of the phone call to State Road FF and Pine Cove Road in Edwards.

When they arrived, the deputies discovered 56-year-old Eric L. Cantrell with a gunshot wound on the camper’s living room floor. At the scene, he was identified as deceased.
A female who has not been named was taken to a hospital.
Deputies were informed by a family member of both victims—who would subsequently be arrested—that he heard a gunshot inside the camper. He claimed that when he went to check on the source, he observed the unnamed woman clutching a firearm while Eric was lying on the ground. The family member claimed that he unintentionally shot her while attempting to wrestle the gun from the woman.
The female informed police that the family member was the gunman on her way to the hospital. Deputies investigated the site and discovered evidence that contradicted the male family member’s account and supported the female’s account.
The man is being detained without bond at the Camden County Adult Detention Center. According to the news release, he is expected to show up at the Camden County Associate Court in late March.
The detained individual has not yet received a formal charge, and Ozarks First will withhold his name until he does. Further details will be added to this article as they become available.
