Agents from the FBI have caught a man who they say brought an explosive device to an airport in Pennsylvania on Monday.Mark Muffley, who is 40 years old, is accused of putting the device in his checked bag for a flight to Orlando, Florida.
Agents say he ran away from the airport when his name was called over the loudspeaker. He was caught at home later that day.
Officials from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) say they saw the device during a regular check. Officials say that Mr. Muffley checked in for Allegiant Air Flight 201 on Monday morning at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, which is 65 miles (105 km) north of Philadelphia.
About an hour later, TSA screeners found the suspicious item and called bomb technicians and other FBI experts to look at it.
In the charges against the suspect, FBI bomb technician Jared Witmier said that fuses and explosive powder were found in a device that was hidden in the lining of the suspect’s rolling suitcase and was 3 inches long.
The compound had both a quick fuse and a hobby fuse. The quick fuse seemed to have been made when the compound was first made, while the hobby fuse seemed to have been added later.
The FBI court document says that the “powder is thought to be a mix of flash powder and the dark granulars used in commercial fireworks.” “The black powder and flash powder could have caught fire from heat or friction, which was a big problem for the plane and its passengers.”

A can of butane, a lighter, a pipe with white powder on it, a wireless drill with cordless batteries, and two taped-together circuit breakers were also in the bag.
The court papers say that Mr. Muffley left the airport five minutes after being called on the loudspeaker at the airport. Monday night, he was found at his home in Lansford, Pennsylvania. He is accused of having an explosive in an airport and of having or trying to put an explosive or flammable device on a plane.
He has a court date on Thursday.
