Adolescent Found Guilty Of Setting Man On Fire

A judge in Rochester, New York’s Criminal Youth Division and Family Court found a 16-year-old responsible for the 2021 murder of Steven Amenhauser by dousing him with combustible fluid and lighting fire to him on Tuesday.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office reports that on Tuesday, Adriel Riley, who was 14 at the time of the attack, was found guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree illegal possession of a firearm by Judge Stacey Romeo.

On March 12, 2021, Amenhauser was sitting in a chair in his Lyell Avenue apartment when Riley and another juvenile allegedly doused him with a combustible liquid and set him ablaze with a lighter. Many onlookers followed him outside and tried to extinguish the fire.

Amenhauser, aged 53, passed away a few days after being burned alive. Seventy percent of his body was burned, mainly to the second and third degrees.

Rochester native Zayvion Perry, 18, admitted to first-degree manslaughter in January for his part in Amenhauser’s death. Perry, who was only 16 years old at the time of the murder, will be given a 25-year prison term on March 27. At the end of March, Riley will be given a sentence.

“Adriel Riley’s violent conduct was horrific and terrible,” said Deputy District Attorney Rachel Clark, who prosecuted the case with ADA Matthew Schiano.

According to District Attorney Sandra Doorley’s press announcement, Steven Amenhauser was “terrifyingly murdered” by Adriel Riley with help from Zayvion Perry. Because he has no respect for human life, Adriel Riley poses a threat to this area. That murder was brutal and heartbreaking. Two years later, I’m relieved that justice was served for Steven Amenhauser.

Explain Who Was Steven Amenhauser?

According to Rochester police, Amenhauser was adopted as an infant and had no relatives when he passed away. Both his wife and long-term girlfriend passed away long ago.

Rochester Police Captain Frank Umbrino claimed that Amenhauser, who lived alone at 500 12 Lyell Ave. and had deteriorating health, was a vulnerable adult. Within the previous five minutes, he had walked to a neighboring corner store and returned to his flat before bursting out of the building on fire.
