The couple had an instant and profound connection from the very beginning, but things started to go downhill when they finally met outside of the pods.
At that point, it was clear to Sal that Mallory’s connection with Jarrette might not be completely over as he had believed it to be, so this threw a wrench into their relationship.
What happened on the show?
Mallory and Sal became fast friends and engaged in the premiere episode of the new season after discovering that they shared Mexican ancestry. Nevertheless, Mallory was also the recipient of a proposition from Jarrette. However, she did not accept the proposal because her feelings for Sal were far more significant.

There is no cause for concern regarding his health. I’m not sure what it is exactly, but I can’t seem to put my finger on it. This throws me off because I’m not feeling good about it now, and it’s because of this.
However, after travelling back to their home base in Chicago, things seemed to be going rather smoothly for them as Mallory and Sal acclimated to living together and planned for the possibility of getting married.
Are Mallory and Sal still together?
Some people assumed that the fact that Mallory and Sal still followed each other on Instagram was a good sign that they were still together, unless there had been a more recent and amicable breakup. Mallory and Sal continue to follow each other on Instagram.
On the other hand, it was made abundantly obvious that there was no longer a romantic connection between these two people in the reunion episode that aired on March 4. Mallory said that they went for coffee after the wedding ceremony; nevertheless, “the connection wasn’t really there,” she stated, according to what Mallory told her. “There was no point in carrying on at this point.”

Now we come to the part when things start to get interesting: The series finale, which aired on February 25, did not feature Mallory and Sal’s wedding in any capacity. In the end, Sal was the one who decided to call off the wedding. During the wedding ceremony, after expressing how much he cares for Mallory, he finally said, “I cannot. I feel like I just need more time.”

On the basis of what they said to one another throughout the show, it seemed as though there was a possibility of them moving forward with a romantic relationship that would involve actual dates. On the other hand, it was equally likely that they might choose to stop being together permanently.
