Police say that a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in northwest Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that gunmen in a car drove up to the Ravenwood Hills apartments on Lynn Street near Freedom Drive just before 4 p.m. and started shooting at a group of people there.

The teen was shot at that time, but it’s not clear if he was the intended target.

Glenn Counts, who has been a crime reporter for Channel 9 for a long time, went to the place where a quiet Sunday had turned into a busy crime scene. Major Jonathan Thomas of the CMPD talked to Counts. He and his fellow officers are trying to figure out what caused this violence.

“There were no calls for a disturbance, no calls for a fight, or anything else that led up to the shooting,” Thomas said. “At first, some people said there was a group of three or five people, but none of them stayed, so we were trying to figure out who was here.”

Blocc Baby’s friend told Counts that Blocc Baby was liked in the neighbourhood and was even planning to move away with his mother.

Baby said, “He was a good kid, and everyone in the neighbourhood liked him. It’s sad that he didn’t make it, it’s so sad, but tomorrow is another day and another life.”

Police are still trying to figure out what kind of car the suspects were driving and how many of them there are. If you or someone you know knows anything, please let CMPD know.
