There have been rumors going around that Netflix is going to get their hands on a Bioshock adaptation; lets see Bioshock Netflix with both a series and a movie being touted as potential formats. There was a time when the Bioshock project was being worked on.
Who is behind the Netflix game Bioshock?
The main company that will make the movie will be Vertigo Entertainment. They made movies like “It,” “The Lego Movie,” and “The Grudge.”
Vertigo Entertainment worked on Death Note and Extinction for Netflix. The Mother, starring Jennifer Lopez, will come out in 2022. The Witch Boy and Reborn, made with Fortis Films, will come out in 2021.
Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, I Am Legend and Netflix’s Slumberland) was named the director and producer of the live-action version of BioShock in August 2022.
The script is being written by Michael Green, who wrote Logan, Blade Runner 2049, and Death on the Nile.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO, and Chairman of 2K, will be an executive producer on the movie. He said in a statement after the first announcement, “Netflix is one of the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in all of the entertainment right now. We are thrilled that they share our vision and commitment to the BioShock series, which has millions of fans all over the world. 2K’s Cloud Chamber studio is hard at work on the next game in the series, and our partnership with Netflix makes us even more sure that BioShock will continue to captivate and engage fans like never before.

Here’s a quick summary of Bioshock in case you want to know more.
Ken Levine was in charge of the video game series Bioshock, which came out for the first time in 2007. The game took place in a city called Rapture that was underwater. In 2010, a second game came out that took place 8 years after the first one.
Then, in 2013, Bioshock Infinite came out, which took place in a flying city, which was a very different setting.
Describe the franchise:
“Set in multiple dystopian and visionary landscapes gone wrong, the series mixes sci-fi and horror to ask unique existential and social questions that changed the way game stories could be told.” This is all done in a fast-paced action game that rewards sharp shooting, smart planning, and lethal improvisation.
BioShock: Rapture was a book that came out in 2011. It was written by John Shirley. This book gives information about how Rapture was built. We say this because the name of the book is part of the copyright registrations that Netflix and 2K have made.
At the time this was written, there was no sign of which book Netflix was going to adapt or if it would be a brand-new story.
The franchise hasn’t had a new game since 2013, but that will change in the next few years. Cloud Chamber Studios, a newly formed game studio with teams in California and Québec, is working on a sequel that doesn’t have a name yet. Kelley Gilmore is in charge of the studio, and she is still hiring hard for the sequel, which doesn’t have a date yet.
First to tackle a Bioshock Adaptation
As was said above, this isn’t the first time Bioshock has tried to make it to the big screen.
A script for a Bioshock movie has been floating around for a long time. At one point, Universal Pictures was working on a movie, and Gore Verbinski (Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean) was going to direct it. It was canceled in 2009, about eight weeks before filming was set to begin.
Back in March 2020, Birth Movies Death’s Scott Wampler was able to read the script and think about why it wasn’t made at the time.
Bioshock is just one of many projects Netflix is working on that are based on well-known video game series. Netflix is also making adaptations of other popular games like Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, and more Pokemon.
BioShock release date
Because a release date has not yet been confirmed for BioShock on Netflix, it is possible that we may have to wait some time before it becomes available there. But we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know
