Patrick Beverly, a player for the Lakers, snatched a camera from the sidelines in an attempt to prove to referee Eric Lewis what everyone watching the replay already knew: that LeBron James had been fouled on the final layup of regulation that he missed.
On Saturday night, the NBA-leading Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 125-121 thanks in large part to a technical foul committed by guard Patrick Beverly, who was not called for a foul.

“The best player on earth can’t get a call. It’s amazing,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “As much as you try not to put it on the officiating, it’s becoming increasingly difficult.”
The Celtics ended a three-game losing streak thanks to Jaylen Brown’s 37-point performance. Brown completed a three-point play with 4.1 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, and he added 11 more points in overtime.
There were a total of 19 lead changes, including six in the fourth quarter, and 15 ties; Brown added nine boards, Jayson Tatum had 30 points and 11 boards, and Malcom Brogdon scored 15 of his 26 points in the second half.
James finished the game with 41 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. In particular, he was fuming at his locker after a missed basket at the conclusion of the regular.
“I don’t understand. I don’t understand what we’re doing, and I watch basketball every single day,” said James, who sat with a towel covering his head during overtime and barely looked up as he spoke from his locker. “I watch games every single day and I don’t see it happening to nobody else. It’s just weird.”
After missing 20 games with a foot ailment, Anthony Davis returned from the bench to score 16 points and grab 10 rebounds in his return game. When the Lakers were down in the closing minute of the fourth, Beverly scored 15 points on two separate occasions to put them ahead. But he also missed a free throw that would have won it, and the Celtics took the lead to start overtime thanks to his technical.
The players, Brown emphasized, ultimately determined the outcome of the game. There were clutch plays on both sides in the final minutes. Personally, I like the game a lot. The recent Lakers vs. Celtics game was probably one of the best of all time. I’m relieved that we were victorious.
The Boston Celtics swept the season series against their longtime rivals the Los Angeles Lakers, with Celtics Hall of Famer Paul Pierce cheering on his former team from the sidelines and the broadcasters for both teams, Cedric Maxwell of Boston and Mychal Thompson of Los Angeles, trading insults on press row.
When the visitors jumped up to an 11-point lead in the third quarter, the loud and enthusiastic Lakers fan base began to make noise. When Tatum scored 15 points in the third quarter, including three 3-pointers, to help the team come back from an 11-point hole, the home fans drowned them out.
