Buster Murdaugh didn’t show any emotion as he watched his father Alex get sentenced for killing his brother Paul and mother Maggie. Buster, who is 26, was in the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro, South Carolina, on Thursday night when his only living parent was found guilty of all charges.
As the verdict was read, his father turned to him and said, “It’s okay.” Murdaugh, 52, killed Maggie and Paul on June 7, 2021, at the large Moselle estate in Islandton, South Carolina, where they lived with their wealthy family. The jury reached a unanimous verdict in less than three hours.
Paul stood in the feed room of the dog kennels and was shot twice with a 12-gauge shotgun. The second shot to his head blew almost all of his brain out of his skull. Prosecutors say that after Murdaugh killed Paul, he got a.300 Blackout semiautomatic rifle and shot Maggie as she ran away from her husband.
Before he was led out in handcuffs, Murdaugh also didn’t show any emotion as the guilty verdicts were read to a court that was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The defence team asked for a mistrial as a last resort, but the judge quickly said no.
“The case went to the jury the right way, and the verdict was the right way,” he said. “There is so much proof of guilt that I can’t agree with the motion.” The sentencing is set for 9:45 a.m. on Friday, and statements from victims will be read out.

On each murder count, Murdaugh could get between 30 years and life in prison. The weapons charges come with a five-year sentence, which can be served at the same time as the murder charges.
After almost six weeks of testimony and less than three hours of deliberation, the jury came to a decision that everyone agreed on. This case has been the talk of the country for almost two years. After she fell to her knees, she was shot five times, including twice in the head.
Buster stood by his father during the trial and even testified in his defence. When his father was found guilty, he didn’t say much and just rubbed his eyes for a moment. During the six-week trial, Buster and the rest of his family stood together in the courtroom to show support for Murdaugh.
Alex and Maggie’s only son who is still alive testified in his father’s defence that the deaths of his mother and brother had “destroyed” and “broken his heart.”
