“I’m devastated by the loss of my friend and chef Carl Ruiz. I am at a loss for words to express what a wonderful friend he was to my family and me. Only his culinary prowess could rival his ability to always make me smile and laugh. I’ve met a lot of wonderful people throughout the years, but a buddy like Carl is one in a million. Carl “The Cuban” Ruiz will always be in my heart and the hearts of everyone who loved him.
“This man was somehow fatherly, soothing, wise, wild, clever, wickedly funny & unique all in one,” tweeted Alex Guarnaschelli, a different Food Network chef. Without him, my existence will be more lonely. Regards, Carl. Without you here, I’ll do my best to prevent anyone from ordering pizza with pineapple on it.
A month or so after Ruiz died, the reason of his death was officially announced. Due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, he passed away in his sleep after having a heart attack. When fat and cholesterol accumulate and harden in the arteries, the illness develops. Heart attacks or aneurysms may occur as a result of the restricted blood flow it creates.
Chest pain, pressure around the heart, and limb numbness are signs of atherosclerosis. It is treatable if found early and avoided with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
