Chelsea Handler Illness: Why Was Chelsea Handler Hospitalized?

In a recent interview with E!, 47-year-old Chelsea Handler discussed her recent battle with cardiomyopathy. News. This year, Handler had to cancel a number of her comedy performances for reasons related to her health that were not made public at the time. Her 4.4 million Instagram followers were reassured that she was “safe and sound” after she discredited pregnancy issues and COVID-19 as possible causes.

And now she’s talking publicly about it. “I had a hospital scare after a show in Seattle a couple of months ago,” Handler told E! News. Having suffered from cardiomyopathy, which she describes as “like an adrenaline shot to the heart,” Handler was instructed by her doctor to prioritise her health, just as she urges her listeners to do. At this moment, I feel completely normal. To which I said, “Good advice.” Put your words into action. As Handler put it, “it was a good reminder to let everything go.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiomyopathy refers to a group of diseases that all hurt the heart’s muscles (CDC). One in 500 U.S. adults suffers from cardiomyopathy, which can slowly worsen over time and lessen the heart’s ability to pump blood.

Symptoms of cardiomyopathy are not always present, and sometimes the underlying reason is unknown. However, researchers have discovered several risk factors, including heart attack, coronary heart disease, thyroid issues, diabetes, heart muscle infections, cocaine misuse, alcoholism, pregnancy, muscular dystrophy, and a family history of heart difficulties.

Her stress, according to her handler, caused cardiomyopathy. Reducing stress may be recommended by your doctor if you have been diagnosed with the illness, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cardiomyopathy has no known cure; therefore, treatment focuses on alleviating symptoms and managing the disease through lifestyle changes (such as diet and exercise), medication, and avoidance of triggers (such as alcohol and narcotics).

In the new interview, Handler not only discusses her cardiomyopathy but also her mental health, praising therapy as the reason she is now dating comedian Jo Koy. In his own words, “I had gone a long period without ever sitting down to meditate or reflect,” Handler admitted. Indeed, counselling was able to alter that. It’s a boon to one’s sense of self-awareness.
