The Marvel Cinematic Universe surprised us with a Christmas-themed Hawkeye series in 2021. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) is trying to get home in time for Christmas when his history as Ronin comes back to haunt him. He partners up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to deal with the situation. Characters like Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova returned in Hawkeye, much to the delight of viewers.
But Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez (aka Echo) as a new MCU character was the real show-stealer. In Hawkeye, Lopez made her first appearance in a live-action film in the role of the Tracksuit Mafia’s deaf boss.
In the show, she is on the hunt for Hawkeye, the Ronin who killed her father. Her fighting prowess is unparalleled because of her uncanny ability to mirror her adversaries’ every move. She tracks down her adoptive uncle, Kingpin, and kills him after learning the truth about how he arranged for her father’s murder by tipping off Ronin.
It was announced in November of 2021 that Cox would reprise her role as Lopez in a spinoff series of Echo. Since Echo is such a historic figure, the show was very well received. She is one of the rare Indigenous and deaf heroes in both the comics and the MCU. Cox, who uses a prosthetic limb, is also a symbol for amputees. Echo promises to be an unforgettable performance.

Here is a tweet posted by Marvel Studios:
The photo doesn’t provide us with a lot of information, but perhaps that’s on purpose. The presence of a villain or guest appearances by other MCU characters has not yet been confirmed. This is a trip, and we only know that it is Maya’s.
She’s moving out from New York in order to rediscover who she is with the support of friends and family. This is depicted in the initial snapshot of her wandering and thinking alone. We welcome Daredevil and Kingpin, but Maya is the one who will be riding shotguns on this one.
