‘Eight Legged Freaks’ Actress Eileen Ryan’s Cause of Death

Eileen Ryan, the mother of musicians Michael Penn and Sean Penn and actors Christopher Penn and Eileen Ryan, has gone away. Ryan reportedly died on Sunday at her Malibu home over the weekend, as reported by Deadline. She was 94 when she passed away, she was about to turn 95.

A family representative confirmed the news to the press but did not comment on the circumstances surrounding her passing. Son Michael Penn, a musician, confirmed the news on Monday via Twitter. With the remark, “We lost mum yesterday,” he shared a snapshot of his mother from her younger years. Actors John Levenstein, Joely Fisher, and singer and Grammy winner Jason Isbell, among others, were quick to express their condolences to Penn on social media.

Eileen Ryan was a Broadway veteran who appeared in numerous television shows and movies throughout her career. At Close Range was a neo-noir film directed by James Foley and based on the life of Bruce Johnston Sr., the patriarch of a rural Pennsylvania crime family, in which she played a supporting part as the grandmother of her sons Sean and Christopher. The Indian Runner (1991), The Crossing Guard (1995) (which Sean directed), I Am Sam (2001), The Pledge (2001), The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004), and All the King’s Men (2006) are just a few of the films in which Ryan appears alongside her son, Sean.

Eileen Ryan’s Cause of Death Has Not Been Disclosed to the Public
