As we enter Marvel Phase 6, we will finally see the Fantastic Four in an MCU film. Even though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicked off Marvel Phase 5 (with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on the horizon), fans are already excited to see who will play Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm in the upcoming films.
Even though there isn’t a ton of official news regarding the film, we’ve pieced together everything you need to know about the newest MCU addition. Here you’ll find all the information you need about the impending Fantastic Four film, including when it will be released, who will direct it now that Jon Watts has left, and who has been rumored to play the lead roles.
Fantastic Four Release Date
The movie Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
The tweet below shows the release date of the Marvel movie:

Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will begin in November 2024, as Kevin Feige first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Blade’s postponement, however, has resulted in the postponement of other films, including Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The movie will reportedly begin shooting in early 2024, as reported by The Wrap.
Fantastic Four Cast & Crew
Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman. Most notably, he directed WandaVision, the Marvel series that premiered on Disney+.
The Fantastic Four movie was at first supposed to be directed by Jon Watts, who had previously helmed Spider-Man. However, Watts announced his departure from the project in April 2022, citing a desire to take a sabbatical from superhero films.
The Direct stated at the end of 2017 that Shakman has been hired to direct Fantastic Four for Marvel.
Writer Josh Friedman (Avatar 2, Snowpiercer) has reportedly been hired to work on the script. Friedman is taking over writing duties from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, which may indicate a shift in tone toward greater seriousness for the Fantastic Four from Marvel.
Fantastic Four MCU Cast
Leaks, speculations, and speculation abound as to who will play Marvel’s famed family, although casting has not yet been decided.
In the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski played Reed Richards from Universe-838, although whether or not he will reprise the role in the main MCU (Universe-616) is unclear.
Krasinski appeared to shut the door on that idea in a December interview with The Wrap, stating something to the effect of, “being turned into spaghetti wasn’t my end goal in life as far as how it goes in the Marvel universe, but you know what, it was fun nonetheless.”
Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Penn Badgley (You), and Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) have all been mentioned as potential replacements for Chris Evans in the role of Reed Richards. Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) was mentioned as a potential replacement for Reed Richards in a rumor published by Giant Freakin Robot in December.
Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, has recently been touted as a leading candidate to play Reed. The driver has reportedly been cast in the role of Richards, as reported by industry insider Daniel Richtman.
The rumored cast (that should be taken with a grain of salt) for the Fantastic Four: Jamie Dornan as Reed Richards, Amanda Seyfried as Sue Storm, and Joe Keery as Johnny Storm. Should Spielberg join as producer, then Ben Grimm will be cast! Again, this is all a rumor. pic.twitter.com/6yTHw8wU6s

There have been many rumors about who could play Sue Storm, including Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout), Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Kristen Bell (The Good Place), and Mila Kunis (Family Guy).
After rumors began spreading that Kunis was dating filmmaker Matt Shakman, Kunis appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show at the end of April to put an end to the rumors. The internet, she continued, suggested that lunch with a fellow industry professional could lead to future collaboration.

The Black Swan actress did, however, hint that she is aware of the cast, which suggests that the major roles have already been filled. Adding, “I don’t want to get in trouble with The Mouse,” she explained her reluctance to cross The Mouse. Therefore, “none of you will ever know.”
However, on May 1st, speculations spread via insider DanielRPK that Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) was offered the part of Sue Storm.

To reprise his role as Johnny Storm, which he originated in 2005, Chris Evans, who played Captain America in Universe-616, has expressed interest in doing so.
Chase Stokes (The Boys), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), and Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) have also been mentioned as potential candidates. The part of Johnny Storm has reportedly been offered to Irish actor Paul Mescal, according to information supplied by insider DanielRPK.

Last but not least, there haven’t been many whispers regarding who would play Ben Grimm, but Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) is apparently a frontrunner.
None of these rumors can be taken seriously until they are confirmed by Marvel or one of the actors playing the roles. The casting process for Marvel’s next film is set to begin in February and March of 2023, according to a tweet posted by Deadline reporter Justin Kroll on February 16, 2023. Therefore, most of the speculated names are probably just those who were perhaps considered.
