Florida Man Files Cold Case in Alabama Eight Years Later

Eight years after the victim was reported missing in a Florida community, Alabama police said on Friday that they had detained a man on murder charges.

Devin Kennedy, 22, of Pensacola, Florida, was murdered; Decody Herring, 32, has been charged with the crime, according to Lt. Andy Ashton of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kennedy was reported missing in Pensacola on November 14, 2015. A day later, his body was discovered in Lillian, an unincorporated area on the Alabama shore.

The tweet below confirms the news:

At the time, a number of suspects were identified; but, according to the investigators, there was not enough evidence to support an arrest.

“Eventually all of our investigative leads were exhausted,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The case remained open but went cold.”

Herring was arrested on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office, although they did not specify what fresh information it was. They also expressed gratitude to Florida law enforcement without elaborating on their function.

Herring was arrested on Wednesday and put into the Baldwin County Jail, where he is being held on a $150,000 bail. If he had a lawyer who could speak for him, that was unknown.
