Emperor Furiosa has returned, sporting an all-new look. In light of Mad Max: Fury Road’s success, director George Miller promised fans “more to come” in the franchise in a tweet. Soon later, news broke of Mad Max: The Wasteland and a Furiosa origin film starring Charlize Theron.
Miller originally cast Theron as a younger version of the post-apocalyptic heroine in the planned prequel. His decision was made after he saw the de-aging VFX in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.
The filmmaker told the New York Times on May 14, 2020, “For the longest time, I imagined we could just apply CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet.” An unsettling chasm was created, in my opinion, by The Irishman’s efforts. I believe that everyone is getting nearer, particularly Japanese video game designers, but there is still a significant chasm.

During the role of Furiosa, Joy excelled. She spoke about her casting success in a Happy Sad Confused podcast recorded in October 2020. Taylor says, “I am honored and appreciative.” What Joy said. On The Graham Norton Show on November 11, 2022, the star of Last Night in Soho revealed that she had never driven a car until learning how to perform Furiosa’s stunts.
Taylor-Instagram Joy drove a car straight at the camera before stopping with a “handbrake turn,” as seen by Graham Norton.
That is incredibly odd and rather upsetting, Taylor-Joy told Norton. There are a lot of things I can’t do, like a parallel park or drive on the highway. I don’t need one to get the job done. That will come in handy, I have no doubt.

Warner Bros. has set the release date of October 13, 2020, for their Mad Max spinoff, with Anya Taylor-Joy in the role of Furiosa.
The main antagonist, played by Hemsworth, was the main character. The guy who plays Thanos in Avengers: Endgame was a surprising choice. According to producer P. J. Voeten, who was quoted in Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, actor Chris Hemsworth was Miller’s first choice.
George initially saw Chris as a favor, but he eventually developed romantic feelings for him. Voeten predicted that he would portray the main antagonist. We’re going to have to start fresh with a new Immortan, Bullet Farmer, and the like.

On July 6, 2020, Theron expressed her regret about leaving Furiosa to The Hollywood Reporter.

Taylor Joy stated on Twitter that she and her co-star “do not hate each other” on November 14th, 2022. At the New York City premiere of The Menu, Taylor-Joy revealed that she and Theron plan to have dinner to discuss the upcoming filming of Furiosa.
She said about Charlize, “Charlize was sweet enough—I believe both of us ended ourselves in a circumstance where we were both so respectful of one another that we didn’t want to seek out beforehand [to filming].”
After the press trip is complete, “the second it was finished,” Taylor Joy stated, “we’re having dinner and we’ll definitely swap war stories.”
On December 7, 2022, Theron explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she could see why Taylor Joy hadn’t been in touch with her after taking the role of Furiosa.
