Half Ounce, a rapper from Los Angeles, was fatally murdered on the sidewalk late on Monday.
Los Angeles police said in a statement released Tuesday that they received “several radio calls of shots fired, with a guy screaming, in the 700 block of South New Hampshire Avenue” at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday. After arriving, police claim they discovered a man who had been shot in front of a structure housing apartment. The Los Angeles Police Department claims that at least a dozen rounds were fired. At the scene, Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the person deceased.
People report that the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the deceased is Latauriisha O’Brien, the rapper’s real name. O’Brien was 32 years old.
The culprit sped off in what police assume to be a dark SUV, and they have yet to catch up with him. A 32-year-old male was last seen wearing all black.

According to the police, O’Brien was on the phone with his wife while she was pregnant with their fourth kid. Fox 11 reports that O’Brien and his friend strolled down the street when an SUV drew up alongside them, and the passenger inside began firing at the two men. Because she overheard her husband sobbing, O’Brien’s wife hurried to comfort him. If the rapper’s friend responded, it’s not evident. He allegedly fled the scene on foot, and authorities still attempt to identify him positively as they look for the shooter.
O’Brien is the father of three children: a daughter, age 8, and two sons, ages nine months and 2. His family announced his pregnancy to NBC 4 in March.
Following the shooting deaths of PnB Rock on September 12 at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles and Kee Riches on September 24 in Compton, O’Brien is the most recent rapper to be shot in Los Angeles.
