The actor’s representative told People that Jerry passed away on November 9, 2021, at the age of 88, only a few days before his birthday on November 12. The specifics of what led to his death were not revealed, although his representative did say that he passed away following what was described as “a brief illness.”

The Young and the Restless executive producer, Anthony Morina, released a statement on November 10, 2021, mourning Jerry’s death.

He stated, “On behalf of the entire Young and the Restless cast and crew, we offer our sincerest condolences to the Douglas family on the loss of Jerry Douglas.”

Anthony went on to state, “Jerry came to Y&R in 1982 with an amazing résumé of credits. Having an actor of his quality join the Y&R cast and introduce viewers to the legendary Abbott family was a stroke of luck for our show. John Abbott, as the patriarch of the Abbott family, has left an indelible mark on Y&R’s history. We mourn his passing.

Even though Jerry’s character passed away in 2006, the actor remained a regular on the soap opera (in the form of Jerry’s character’s ghost) until 2016.
