Jim Brown, the legendary running back for the Cleveland Browns, has d!ed at the age of 87. After leading the Browns to an NFL title in 1964, the running back retired at the height of his career after the 1965 season to pursue a new career as an actor.
Brown used his prominence to help further their cause. In 1967, he coordinated a meeting in Cleveland between Muhammad Ali and the country’s most prominent Black sportsmen, including Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to show support for Ali’s stance against the Vietnam War. In the years that followed, he committed himself fully to reducing gang violence in Los Angeles.
Jim Brown’s Cause of De@th
Brown apparently d!ed through natural causes, according to a number of sources. At the time of his de@th, the former Cleveland Browns running back and his wife were at their home in Los Angeles.
Monique Brown, Brown’s wife, wrote a note after her husband d!ed. What she posted on Instagram reads as follows:
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown. He passed peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star. To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken…”
Shortly after, his team, Cleveland Browns also paid tribute to him on social media. Calling him “legend, leader, activist, visionary,” the tribute further noted: “It’s impossible to describe the profound love and gratitude we feel for having the opportunity to be a small piece of Jim’s incredible life and legacy. We mourn his passing, but celebrate the indelible light he brought to the world.”

Jim’s popularity was growing by the step, but he wanted a change, so he tried his hand at acting. His breakout part came in the film Rio Conchos.
However, audiences had a hard time agreeing on how they felt about the film. Jim, however, would not give up and went on to play a different character in a film titled The Dirty Dozen.
