Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt have split after 18 years together. The couple broke up and told PEOPLE about it in a statement.
Hamm and Westfeldt said, “After 18 years of love and history together, we have decided to split up with a lot of sadness.” “As time goes on, we will continue to help each other in every way we can.”
After Hamm spent 30 days in rehab for alcohol abuse earlier this year, the couple denied rumours that they were breaking up. After In Touch said that Hamm and Westfeldt had broken up, a representative for the couple told PEOPLE, “The story in this week’s issue of In Touch is not true.” “Jon was the only man in Connecticut that Jennifer saw often while he was in rehab. They keep asking the public to be patient and understanding during this hard time.

Hamm became famous for playing Don Draper on Mad Men, but one of his first movie roles was with Westfeldt in Kissing Jessica Stein, which came out in 2000 and was co-written by the 45-year-old actress. Hamm, who is 44 years old, also worked with Westfeldt in the 2006 film Ira & Abby, which Westfeldt wrote, and in the 2011 film Friends with Kids, which was Westfeldt’s first film as a director.
At last year’s PEOPLE Magazine Awards, Hamm said of Westfeldt, “There’s another person sitting in the audience who told me when I wasn’t working that I was still talented.” That person was Westfeldt. “She’s been with me for 16 years, even though the talent question is still up in the air.”
