Who was June Bernicoff?
June was a fan-favourite member of the Gogglebox cast, which consists of friends and family members discussing various television shows on their living room couches.
Together with her late husband Leon (December 2017, age 83), she was a main attraction on the show.
They broadcast live from their Allerton, Liverpool, home.
After Leon passed away, June ended their television show and published two books on their enduring love: Leon and June: Our Story and Forever Sweethearts.
She spoke candidly about how his death had affected her in a September 2018 interview on ITV’s This Morning.
A statement made by June reads as follows: “It’s just been nine months since his death, but I’ve kept myself quite busy because I was asked to pen the book.
“Now I have a reason to carve out time during the day specifically for writing. At first, it was probably simply melancholy as I recalled the final days he was seriously ill.
But when I think back on all the good times we had together, I can’t imagine my world without him.
They filmed their farewell episode together despite Leon being sick, she revealed to Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2 in 2019.
They’ve been married for 57 years after meeting in 1955 at a college for educators.
Helen and Julie were the couple’s daughters.

It is believed that June relocated to Warwickshire in December, leaving Liverpool after 62 years, to be closer to her family.
How did the Gogglebox Star Die?
June’s death on May 5, 2020, at age 82, was announced. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.
She had been receiving hospice care before her death, and the sickness she had suffered from was not caused by the coronavirus.
Channel 4 issued a statement saying, “Our sympathies are with June’s family — Helen and Ian, Julie and Marc, and she adored granddaughters Frances, Sam, and Faye.
The family requests privacy during this difficult time but would want to express gratitude to the hospice workers who helped them and took such good care of June in her final days.
A “remarkably independent, ethical woman with a vibrant sense of humour and a big enthusiasm for life,” the channel said of her.
Even after she left the show in 2017, she was still a dedicated fan who watched it regularly and kept in touch with the creators.
It was also mentioned that “June and her husband Leon were a key part of the success of Gogglebox back in 2013 when they were the first pair to be cast for the show.”
Throughout the first 10 seasons, they won the hearts of Americans thanks to their genuine friendship, humour, and dynamic personalities.
According to a tweet by the show’s producer, “June and Leon were the Gogglebox originals and a key part of the show’s success. I adored them both. Big kiss June sweetheart.”
June has received numerous social media tributes from famous people.
Gogglebox star Stephen Webb tweeted, “Rest in rest our June, reunited with Leon! Forever in our hearts.”
On Instagram, former show favourite Scarlett Moffatt wrote: “You will be missed by everybody. Reunited with your true love.”
Sky News anchor Kay Burley tweeted, “So very sad to learn that June Bernicoff has died after a short illness. She was a fantastic addition to Gogglebox and, as with Leon before him, who went away two years ago.
Friday, May 8, 2020, an episode of Channel 4’s Gogglebox was titled “In loving remembrance, June Bernicoff 1937-2020.”
