CNN was informed by Leo Kosinski, a public information officer for the Chesapeake Police Department, that the department is currently responding to a shooting incident that took place at a Walmart and resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. Kosinski stated that the incident resulted in a number of people being shot and killed.

Kosinski, who talked to CNN about the incident, stated that law enforcement authorities arrived at the location of the shop at 10:12 p.m. They found evidence that a shot had been fired inside the building at some point. According to Kosinski, as soon as the police entered the establishment, they discovered a number of people who had been murdered or injured during the incident. He also noted that the police were unable to offer a definitive number of deaths at this time, despite the fact that they believe the number to be “less than 10.”

Kosinski added that it is believed that none of the law enforcement agencies fired any bullets during the reaction, and he also mentioned that it is believed that the shooter is one of the deceased. Kosinski claimed that it is believed that the shooter is one of the deceased. Officers are now making their way through the store in search of any further victims who may have been hurt during the incident.

During the course of the investigation, local police are reportedly getting help from the field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives located in Washington, DC, according to a tweet that was posted by the ATF.

Residents of Chesapeake were asked by municipal authorities not to go to the establishment while the investigation is still continuing since it is currently under investigation. People were advised to “please leave room to our first responders as they are well-trained and equipped to respond to the crisis at hand” in a tweet that was sent out by the city.

During the incident, Joetta Jeffery’s mother, Betsy Umphlett, allegedly sent her a text message informing her that bullets had been fired from within the place of business. This information was relayed by Jeffery, who discussed the event with CNN.

Jeffery was reported as saying to CNN, “I’m sobbing, and I’m trembling.” He had just concluded a talk with her about getting turkeys for Thanksgiving when he received this text message. “I had just finished a conversation with her about purchasing turkeys for Thanksgiving,” he said.

The family has been reunited, and Jeffery claims that her mother did not receive any injuries but is instead in a state of shock. The Chesapeake Conference Center has, according to the remarks made by local officials, been transformed into a facility that can accommodate reunions. They are asking everyone who was in the store to only bring members of their close family as well as other contacts they can reach in case of an emergency with them to the center.
