After the heartbreaking conclusion of season one, Netflix has confirmed the production of a second season of The Diplomat.
Season one of the political drama was very well received. Kate Wyler, a professional diplomat, struggles to maintain her marriage to fellow diplomat Hal while juggling the demands of her new high-profile position as UK ambassador during an international crisis.
The new show, which stars Keri Russell (Cocaine Bear), Rory Kinnear (Bank of Dave), and Rufus Sewell (Old), has surpassed the political drama The Night Agent, which had previously held the top slot on Netflix worldwide.

Will The Diplomat Return for a Second Season?

Speculation Regarding the Diplomat’s Season 2 Premiere
A specific premiere date has not yet been announced, but we can probably expect new episodes to begin airing in the spring of 2024 at the earliest.

Is the Diplomat Season 2 Filming?
Production on season two of The Diplomat reportedly began in June of 2023. Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell were observed filming at St. Paul’s Cathedral in early June, while it is unknown when or how episodes for the new season were written.
According to What’s on Netflix, the second season may only have six episodes instead of the eight episodes ordered for the first. Another possible fallout from the writers’ strike.
Netflix has not yet confirmed that production on season 2 has begun, and it is unclear how long production will continue. Production for the upcoming season might be able to wrap up before the end of the year if there are only six episodes.
The second season might then undergo post-production in time for a spring 2024 premiere. However, the show’s debut could be postponed due to the many uncontrollable factors in the business.
