Fans of Only Murders in the Building were horrified and excited to see what happened in season 2. As it turns out, fans won’t have to wait long for the return of the murder mystery/comedy series starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.
Only Murders in the Building, a breakout hit and one of What to Watch’s best TV series of 2021, was handed a second season just a few weeks into its run. Hulu also revealed that its launch was the most-watched premiere for an original comedy on the streamer and that it became the most-watched comedy across all streaming titles ever on the platform (at the time).
When Are the Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Release Date?
Only the second season of Murders in the Building will air on Hulu in the United States and Disney Plus in the United Kingdom on June 28.

Only Murders in the Building Season 1 Recap
If you haven’t finished watching Only Murders in the Building season 1, beware of spoilers. You’ve been warned, so don’t be surprised.
An Upper West Side apartment complex, the Arconia, serves as the setting for Only Murders in the Building. While listening to a recent podcast, the three true-crime fans — Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mora — bond over their shared interest in the podcast and their unique theories. A fire alarm, at the very least.
Upon their return, they discover that a young man called Tim Kono, with whom they had shared an elevator earlier in the day has been murdered. There’s something fishy going on, and these two amateur detectives decide to get involved and establish their true-crime podcast to find out what it is.
Charles, Oliver, and Mabel’s backstory are quickly revealed. When one of their friends perished falling from the roof of the building, Mabel and Tim Kono had an argument and ended up no longer being friends. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are all ex-TV stars and Broadway producers, respectively.
Despite their initial stumbles with their investigation, the trio can find bits and pieces that soon attract others into their orbit, including Jan (Amy Ryan), an oboe player and love interest for Charles; Oscar (Aaron Dominguez), another of Mabel’s old friends, recently released from jail after being wrongly blamed for their friend’s death; and some other true-crime fans. Some of their fellow inhabitants, most notably Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell), Uma (Jackie Hoffman), and Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), are not pleased with them.
After getting rid of the Sting idea, they go on to Teddy Dimas as the next suspect. Theo (James Caverly), Teddy’s son, killed Mabel’s buddy. Teddy made threats against Tim Kono and Mabel if he reported what he observed. Tim seems to be aware of Teddy’s schemes before his death. Teddy Dimas and his kid were arrested after Detective Williams was given these pieces of information.
The detectives are confident they’ve solved the crime, but Detective Williams tells them that she has video footage of Dimas outside the building at the time of the murder, which rules out their involvement. It becomes clear that Jan is the assassin when Mabel and Oliver take an oboe cleaner from Tim’s apartment as evidence. When she senses that the trio is on her, Jan tries to kill Charles and the others but is stopped and captured.
There is a brief period of celebration for the three after their first winning case, though. In Mabel’s apartment, Charles and Oliver find Bunny’s bloodied body in front of Mabel bloodied body. However, all three have been detained and are now the primary suspects in a fresh murder case, despite her claims that it is not what it appears to be.
For the first season of Only Murders in the Building, What to Watch provides comprehensive recaps.
Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Plot

“After the death of Arconia board president Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel is on a mission to uncover the identity of the perpetrator. As a result of these three (unfortunate) missteps, the trio is implicated in Bunny’s death, the subject of a competing podcast, as well as the suspicions of a slew of New York neighbors.”
