Police Report Fatal Crash on I-691 in Meriden, Claiming Life of Waterbury Man

According to Connecticut State Police, a pickup truck carrying a Waterbury man collided with another vehicle on Interstate 691 Sunday night, causing the latter to lose control and fall down an embankment.

Javier Rosado-Toro, 35, was the man who was identified by the authorities.

In a 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star, Rosado-Toro was a passenger. The pickup truck was being driven by a 31-year-old Orlando, Florida, woman when it attempted to pass a 2011 Ford F350 Super Duty pickup truck and hit the driver’s side, state police reported in an incident report on Monday.

The Ram rolled over and struck a tree after spinning out of control across the road, against the cable barrier in the right shoulder, and down an embankment, according to state police.

Rosado-Toro was killed immediately after being ejected from the vehicle after the accident, according to state police.

The Florida woman was sent to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment after suffering severe injuries. State police reported that the 42-year-old Middlebury man who was driving the Ford pickup was unharmed in the collision.

The I-691 west exit was closed for most of the night as a result of the incident, which happened at 9:15 p.m. Around 5:10 a.m., according to the State Department of Transportation, the highway was reopened.
