Timeline of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Relationship

On April 29, 2011, the eyes of the world were riveted on Westminster Abbey in London as Prince William and Princess Kate exchanged vows. They looked back at the couple’s history together, from their royal engagements to the births of their three stunning children.

Despite not being married until 2011, Kate and William met as undergraduates at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland ten years earlier. For the rest of their schooling together, the two would remain secretive about their relationship, but by 2007 they would be publicly splitting up.

“At the time, I wasn’t thrilled about it, but it made me a stronger person,” Kate said in a joint interview with William in November 2010. What you learn about yourself may surprise you. I believe when you’re younger, you’re more likely to let a relationship absorb you, and I appreciated that time for myself even if I didn’t realize its importance at the time.

Meanwhile, William elaborated on his choice to temporarily separate from Kate. At the time, he reflected on this period of separation, saying, “It was just a little of distance, and it worked out for the best since we were all trying to find our path and growing up.”

The two got back together and announced their engagement in November 2010. They’ve just become parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

In November 2016, William gushed over Kate’s parenting skills. It’s been a big adjustment for me. Catherine’s encouragement is a huge blessing. He rushed on Talk Vietnam about what a wonderful mother and wife she was. “There have been moments when I’ve battled. Having children and a spouse changes a guy drastically from his previous state as a single, self-sufficient individual. Meanwhile, in February 2020, Kate laid out her plans for their children’s future.

“What would you want your children to remember about their childhood?” she was asked recently, she revealed on the “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” podcast. That got me thinking, and I thought it was a great question: “Is it that I’m sitting here on the weekend trying to help my kids with their math and spelling homework?” Or maybe it’s because we tried to cook sausages over an outside fire, but the weather was too damp. I hope they remember not just the times we spent together as a family but also the times we spent at the beach, where we all got drenched and filled our boots to the brim with water. Not a chaotic home where no one is very successful at anything.
