Following a series of collisions on Wednesday on I-96 close to Saranac, a semi-truck driver perished.
Around midday, a collision occurred in Boston Township’s westbound lanes close to Nash Highway.
Initial reports, according to Michigan State Police, revealed that a semi-truck failed to reduce speed in response to a traffic jam. A passenger automobile was pushed into the median after being rear-ended by it. The first semi then struck a second, forcing it into a third.
Troopers are on scene of a serious traffic crash on W/B I-96 near Nash Hwy. At least one semi and one passenger vehicle are involved. The westbound freeway lanes are currently closed at Nash Hwy. The first semi’s driver was knocked out of the vehicle and flown to the hospital with serious injuries. MSP reports that the driver later passed away.
Update: The roadway has just been reopened but sadly, the driver of the semi has died from their injuries. The crash remains under investigation. 4/4

The passenger car’s driver was also sent to the hospital due to non-life-threatening injuries.
The two other semi-truck drivers were not mentioned as being harmed by MSP.
I-96’s westbound lanes were blocked near Nash Highway while emergency personnel responded to the area. Around 3 p.m., the highway reopened.
