Sonic 3 Movie Release Date and Who is The Cast In It?

Sonic the Hedgehog, a film adaptation of the popular video game, was a huge success for Paramount and SEGA in Hollywood. One of the year’s biggest hits prompted the production company to rush out a sequel. Fans are eager for information about Sonic 3, especially after the tantalizing post-credit scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Spoilers ahead, please be aware.

Sonic, directed by Jeff Fowler, is a film franchise about everyone’s favorite hedgehog. We’ve seen Sonic (Ben Schwartz) race to the finish line, save the universe, and even Fortnite dance his way to triumph after facing off against the wicked Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).

Our spiky-haired hero defeated Dr. Robotnik, made friends with Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O’ Shaughnessey), and defended the Master Emerald, an ancient power source, in the conclusion of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The conclusion of the family film sees Dr. Robotnik’s escape and the introduction of a new significant character, but it also leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Thankfully, Paramount has already confirmed a threequel, and the release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is on the horizon. All the details of our speedy friend’s upcoming trip are provided here.

Sonic 3 Movie Release Date

If everything goes according to plan, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theaters on December 20, 2024.

The tweet below confirms the release date of Sonic 3:

It was announced in early August of 2022, so fans will have to wait a little longer than usual for Sonic’s big-screen exploits.

The first two films in the series came out in February 2020 and April 2022, thus this is a shift from those schedules. Since those films did so well at the box office around the holidays, it only makes sense to release them then.

If this release date holds, the threequel will compete with Avatar 3 for box office supremacy. Technically, they’re both aiming for different audiences, but with the unprecedented success of The Way of Water, Sonic probably wants to move the release date of his next game up.

The tweets are the source of this material. You could find the same material in a different format, or even more material, on their website.

There has been no word on when production on the third installment will begin, but given the extensive CGI work required for the first two films, we expect it to begin this year.

The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3

The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Although no official announcements have been made about the cast of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, several of the series regulars are likely to return. Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as Sonic the Hedgehog’s voice in this installment, much as he did in the prior two.

Alongside him, Colleen O’Shaughnessey will portray Miles “Tails” Prower, and Idris Elba will play Knuckles the Echidna. As for Sonic’s human relatives, we can probably count on James Marsden and Tika Sumpter to reprise their roles as Tom and Maddie Wachowski.

Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey in the previous two Sonic movies, may or may not return in the third, as Carrey has said he is retiring from acting. But the producers have said they won’t recast the character even if Carrey doesn’t return.

Natasha Rothwell, who plays Maddie’s sister Rachel, and Adam Pally, who plays Green Hills’ deputy sheriff Wade Whipple, are also set to return. Meanwhile, Lee Majdoub’s Agent Stone, who serves as Robotnik’s right-hand man, may or may not return.
