Teresa and Joe Giudice, her ex-husband, have both been incarcerated. In 2015, she spent eleven months in prison for fraud. They claimed $11,000,000 in debt when they filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
The Giudices’ Bankruptcy and Criminal Charges
Joe and Teresa declared bankruptcy in 2009. They claimed more than $11 million in debt and said they had to sell their residence and a lot of their belongings at auction to pay off their creditors.
Joe and Teresa were charged with 39 counts of conspiracy in July 2013, and the following month they entered not-guilty pleas. The charges included mail fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and false representations on loan applications.
The Giudices made a deal with federal prosecutors and pled guilty to 41 charges of fraud in March 2014. Teresa was given a 15-month sentence and Joe was given a 41-month sentence and the possibility of deportation they were also ordered to pay $414,000 in restitution, which they did pay down.
Teresa spent the first eight months of her sentence under home arrest after being released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut on December 23, 2015. Joe was sentenced to time in prison on March 23, 2016, and released on March 14, 2019.
He was then held in immigration detention until October 2019, at which point he relocated to Italy in order to find gainful employment while he awaited the court’s judgment on his deportation.
While Teresa’s 2009 bankruptcy case was dismissed and she was forced to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and the New Jersey Department of Treasury in June 2018, her lawsuit against her bankruptcy counsel for $5 million was dismissed in late 2014.

Teresa Giudice Finally Sells Montville Mansion for $2 Million
Teresa and Joe erected a mansion in Montville, New Jersey, with about 10,000 square feet of space in 2008. The mansion includes a pool, a Cinderella staircase, a huge chandelier, and six bedrooms.
Teresa put this home up for sale in 2014 for $4 million, at the height of her legal woes. She relisted it for sale in September 2020 for $2.5 million. The price was reduced by her in January of 2021 to $2.25 million. Exactly one year later, she dropped the price to $1,999,999. In May of 2022, the sale of the property was finalized for $2 million, with Teresa receiving the full amount and Joe receiving nothing.
