A woman was sentenced to death by a jury in the state of Texas on Wednesday for the murder of another woman who was pregnant at the time of the slaying. The defendant knew the victim was going to have the baby taken away.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that the jury discussed for just more than an hour before reaching a decision and passing a sentence on Taylor Parker, who is 29 years old. On October 3, 2018, the same jury in Bowie County convicted Parker guilty of capital murder in connection with the killing of Reagan Simmons-Hancock, who was 21 years old at the time of the incident. The unborn kid of Hancock and Simmons that was forcibly taken from her womb did not make it through the ordeal alive.

In a statement that she provided to the court, Hancock referred to Parker as an “evil piece of flesh demon.” This description was included in the statement.

Jessica Brooks stated that you “tore her apart and ripped her baby from her stomach while she was still alive and battling for her infants.” “My baby was still alive and struggling to protect her kids,” I said.

The body of Simmons-Hancock was found in her home on October 9, 2020, in the village of New Boston, which has a population of around 4,600 people and is located approximately 160 miles (258 kilometers) northeast of Dallas. Her daughter, who was only three years old at the time, was at home when her mother was killed, and she witnessed the entire thing.

Parker said that she had recently given birth after being stopped by a state trooper earlier that morning for speeding and driving erratically. The trooper had pulled her over because she was driving erratically and speeding. The baby, who was subsequently discovered to be named Braxlynn Sage Hancock, was sent to a hospital in Oklahoma, where it was discovered that she had passed away while she was a patient there.

The prosecution asserts that for Parker to keep her connection with her boyfriend, she feigned to be pregnant, faked ultrasounds, and even hosted a party to reveal the gender of the unborn child. These actions are said to have been taken to keep the relationship together.

Homer Hancock, the husband of Simmons-Hancock, indicated in his testimony that he and his wife had “something of a friendship” with Parker and that Parker had photographed both their engagement and wedding. Homer Hancock stated that he and his wife had “something of a friendship” with Parker. Additionally, Homer Hancock mentioned that Parker was the one who took their images.

During the prosecutor’s closing statements, Kelley Crisp presented the jury with an image that she had taken at the scene of the crime, which showed Simmons-Hancock lying on the ground covered in blood. The photo was taken by the investigator who found her. She made the case to the jury that Parker should be executed because she is a danger to society and should therefore be punished with death.

She said that in addition to having her unborn child ripped from her womb, Simmons-Hancock was also beaten and had hundreds of cuts caused on her body as a result of being “slashed.” The attorney representing Parker, Jeff Harrelson, used his closing remarks to remind the jury that “words may be used to dehumanize,” and that there are “layers” and “shades of gray” to the lives of individuals.

He affirmed that she is a member of the human race. According to Harrelson, Parker was also let down by her friends and family, who, although being aware of the fake pregnancy, did not question her about it. This was another source of disappointment for Parker.

When pressed for more information, he responded by saying that “there was no safety net when everyone noticed the wheels were off.”
